Only when we can put aside our 'fat, relentless egos' will we come at last to the peace this world cannot provide. Catholicism, after Christ, is about 'having life and having it to the full'. We cannot have anything worthwhile if we're selfish, sneaky and consumed by our desires.

A Prayer for Workers
O glorious Joseph! Who concealed your incomparable and regal dignity of custodian of Jesus and of the Virgin Mary under the humble appearance of a craftsman and provided for them with your work, protect with loving power your sons, especially entrusted to you.

You know their anxieties and sufferings, because you yourself experienced them at the side of Jesus and of His Mother. Do not allow them, oppressed by so many worries, to forget the purpose for which they were created by God. Do not allow the seeds of distrust to take hold of their immortal souls. Remind all the workers that in the fields, in factories, in mines, and in scientific laboratories, they are not working, rejoicing, or suffering alone, but at their side is Jesus, with Mary, His Mother and ours, to sustain them, to dry the sweat of their brow, giving value to their toil. Teach them to turn work into a very high instrument of sanctification as you did. Amen.

Sann Gud av sann Gud

I begynnelsen var Ordet, och Ordet var hos Gud, och Ordet var Gud. Han var i begynnelsen hos Gud. Genom honom har allt blivit till, och utan honom har inget blivit till, som är till. I honom var liv, och livet var människornas ljus. Och ljuset lyser i mörkret, och mörkret har inte övervunnit det.

En man trädde fram, sänd av Gud. Hans namn var Johannes. Han kom som ett vittne för att vittna om ljuset, för att alla skulle komma till tro genom honom. Själv var han inte ljuset, men han kom för att vittna om ljuset.

Det sanna ljuset, som ger ljus åt alla människor, skulle nu komma till världen. Han var i världen och världen hade blivit till genom honom, och världen kände honom inte. Han kom till sitt eget, och hans egna tog inte emot honom. Men åt alla som tog emot honom gav han rätt att bli Guds barn, åt dem som tror på hans namn. De är inte födda av blod eller av köttets vilja eller av någon mans vilja utan av Gud.

Och Ordet blev kött och bodde bland oss, och vi såg hans härlighet, en härlighet som den Enfödde har av Fadern, och han var full av nåd och sanning.

O my crucified God, behold me at Your feet; do not cast me out, now that I appear before You as a sinner. I have offended You exceedingly in the past, my Jesus, but it shall be so no longer. Before You, O Lord, I place all my sins; I have now considered Your own sufferings and see how great is the worth of that Precious Blood that flows from Your veins.
